Child Brain Injury - Subdural Hematoma, Uncal Brainstem Herniation and Death

This medical exhibit displays two views of fatal brain injuries in a child. A superior (top) cut-away view pictures cerebral edema (brain swelling), subdural hematoma (brain hemorrhage), and the resultant compression of internal brain ventricles. A mid-sagittal (cut-away) view also an uncal herniation through the foramen magnum at the base of the skull with fatal compression on the brainstem's vital respiratory and cardiac centers.
